PTA Warning 2026: Rising Scam Calls and Online Fraud Alert for Pakistan Citizens

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has issued a strong warning to the public over a growing surge in scam calls and online fraud incidents across Pakistan. The telecom regulator urged citizens to remain vigilant and avoid sharing any personal or financial information with unknown callers or suspicious messages.

According to the authority, cybercriminals are adopting more sophisticated and deceptive techniques to exploit mobile users, leading to financial losses and identity misuse.

Common Scam Tactics Used by Fraudsters

In its advisory, the PTA highlighted that scammers are increasingly contacting people through phone calls, SMS, and messaging apps. These fraudsters often pretend to represent well-known institutions or claim that the recipient has won a prize or lottery.

Victims are usually pressured into clicking malicious links or asked to share sensitive details such as CNIC numbers, bank account information, mobile banking credentials, or one-time passwords. The authority warned that such actions can compromise both financial security and personal identity.

PTA’s Advice to Citizens

The regulator strongly advised the public to never share personal, financial, or banking information with unknown callers. Citizens were also cautioned against responding to unsolicited calls or messages that create urgency or promise unrealistic rewards.

How to Report Scam Calls and Online Fraud

Cases related to cybercrime should be reported to the Federal Investigation Agency through its helpline 1799. Meanwhile, incidents involving mobile banking or financial fraud should be reported to the State Bank of Pakistan helpline at 111 727 273.

Early Reporting Key to Preventing Financial Losses

PTA stressed that early reporting plays a critical role in minimizing financial damage and helping authorities trace and block fraudulent networks. The authority noted that public awareness and timely action are essential to protecting Pakistan’s digital ecosystem.

The regulator reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding consumers and urged citizens to stay informed, cautious, and proactive in reporting telecom and online fraud.
