LAHORE: The Punjab School Education Department has officially revised school timings for all government schools across the province in response to ongoing cold weather and persistent fog, which have disrupted normal academic routines in recent weeks.
According to a formal notification issued by the department, the revised Punjab school timings will take effect from January 19, 2026, and remain applicable until April 15, 2026. The decision has been taken to ensure student safety while maintaining continuity of classroom learning.
New Timings for Single-Shift Government Schools
Under the updated schedule, single-shift government schools across Punjab will operate as follows:
- Monday to Thursday: 10:00 am to 2:15 pm
- Friday: 10:00 am to 12:30 pm
Friday classes have been shortened in line with standard weekly adjustments and winter conditions.

Revised Schedule for Double-Shift Schools
For schools operating in double shifts, the department has announced separate timings:
- Morning Shift: Up to 2:00 pm
- Afternoon Shift: 2:15 pm to 4:45 pm
School administrations have been instructed to ensure a smooth transition between shifts and to strictly adhere to the notified timings.
Teachers to Attend Schools on Alternate Saturdays
The notification also clarifies that teachers will attend schools on alternate Saturdays during this period. These days will be used for:
- Curriculum planning
- Teacher training programmes
- Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities
Officials said these measures aim to improve teaching standards and academic planning despite weather-related disruptions.

Reason Behind the Timing Change
Education department officials stated that the revised schedule has been introduced to protect students from harsh winter mornings and low visibility caused by fog, which has affected travel and attendance in several districts.
They added that the department is closely monitoring weather conditions and may issue further instructions if required.
Strict Compliance Directed
The School Education Department has urged school administrations, teachers, parents, and students to strictly follow the revised timetable until April 15, 2026.
Earlier, the department had already announced a one-week extension in winter vacations across parts of Punjab due to adverse weather, highlighting ongoing concerns related to student safety.
What Parents and Students Should Know
- The revised timings apply only to government schools
- Private schools may announce separate schedules
- Timings will remain effective unless a new notification is issued

Final Update
The Punjab School Education Department has reiterated that student safety remains its top priority, and all future decisions regarding school operations will be communicated through official notifications.
